Upgraded to the treehouse

April 2nd, 2011

Last night we decided we wanted to stay an extra night up in the mountains, so we extended our stay at Doura Samra. This morning we had to swap rooms. Usually when swapping rooms in a hotel/B&B you expect pretty much to be in an identical/similar room! Not at Doura Samra. The place is so unique and has such an atmosphere, that I think it will set the mark for all future stays.

We were pleasantly surprised when we found out that we were moving to the “Tree House”. I could go on about it’s features, but it is probably easiest for you to just check out the pictures below.

All in all a good start to the day!

Tamatert trekking, High Atlas, Morocco

March 31st, 2011

This morning Rose and I headed out for a bit of freestyle trekking in and around the Tamatert/Imlil area. Couldn’t get any GPS coverage so I plotted the route on the Runkeeper website (so bound to be a few inaccuracies) but you get the idea!

Tomorrow we leave the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and will be heading south into the High Atlas mountains to hopefully trek the highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal! We are going to be staying here: Douar Samra and extremely excited about the next stage of our adventure!

Marrakech and Riad Elizabeth, Morocco

March 29th, 2011

We’ve spent a lovely two days here at Riad Elizabeth in Marrakech. It is owned by John (a close friend of a friend of mine – Ross). It is beautiful, the decor, the hospitality, the location and the food.

The city of Marrakech is vibrant, with adventures and colour on every corner. We’ve walked around the old city and also ventured over to the Ville Nouvelle. But the city really comes alive after dark in the central square where street traders, witch doctors, food sellers and street performers congregate to feed, entertain and heal you from your day’s adventures.

We’ll upload some pics soon, but for the moment, here are a couple off the Riad Elizabeth website.

A big thanks to John, Kamal and the team for making our stay such an enjoyable one (and to Ross for the drinks on the first night and the recommendation in the first place).

Next stop, Imlil and the High Atlas Mountains!

Barbican, London tilt-shift video

March 15th, 2011

First attempt at a little tilt-shift-style effect. Again footage not really planned and shot particularly well, but you’ve got to start somewhere! Shot at The Barbican Centre, London, UK, March 2011.

BMX & Twixtor video, Finsbury Park, London

March 14th, 2011

OK this isn’t quite Oton Ba?ar, but it’s a start. Shot on my new Canon 550D one afternoon. No planning and probably didn’t get the best angles, so kinda had to make do with what footage I had.

Pretty sick little trick this one!

Waveriders the Film

March 9th, 2011

Awesome film about surfing and it’s Irish roots. Here’s the official synopsis:

WAVERIDERS is the previously untold story of the unlikely Irish roots of the worldwide surfing phenomenon and today?s pioneers of Irish big wave surfing.

The story unfolds through the inspirational and ultimately tragic history of Irish/Hawaiian legendary waterman, George Freeth, the son of an Irishman, who was responsible for the rebirth of this sport of Hawaiian kings in the early twentieth century.

With its distinguished cast of world-renowned Irish, British and Irish/American surfers WAVERIDERS journeys full-circle from Hawaii to California and back to Irish shores following Freeth?s wave of influence. The journey reaches a spectacular climax when the surfers conquer the biggest swell ever to have been ridden in Ireland by catching monster waves of over fifty feet.

The Art of Flight – snowboarding film trailer – Travis Rice

March 8th, 2011

Some amazing cinematography in this forthcoming snowboard movie with Travis Rice. Looks like they’ve worked a little Twixtor magic on the slow-mo shots, nice!!!
