Lagoinha Rivermouth

Lagoinha, Sapé and Maranduba are three connected beaches that form a massive bay as you enter the county of Ubatuba in Brazil. Its a great local option for surfing as the bay is open and doesn't suffer from being too close to Ilhabela (which can block the incoming swells).

If you're not into waves, then at each end of the bay are calmer, more protected areas, great for paddling and swimming.

This shot was taken on a Mavic Pro at the northern end of the beaches where the river enters the sea.

Cachoeira Da Laje & Trilha do Bonete

A few year's ago Rose and I stayed overnight on the tropical island of Ilhabela in Brazil. We were looking for a bit of an adventure, so we decided to hike the 'Trilha do Bonete'.

The trail is isn't for the faint-hearted and is about 10-15km in length through the (pretty relentless) jungle. It eventually leads all the way to lush sands and relaxing waters of Praia Bonete (beach). You can get there as well by boat or helicopter, but what fun would that be!

We had planned to camp and so had (reasonably heavy) packs and a tent. When we arrived at the beach, after 8 hours of walking, getting malled by borrachudos and experiencing a few Indiana Jones moments we decided to stay in a pousada.

This photo was shot at Cachoeira Da Laje, one of three beautiful waterfalls that you pass en-route. If you ever go, pack plenty of water and more importantly, repellent!

Cocanha Island Rocks

Cocanha Island / Ilhote da Cocanha is a small island about 500m offshore from the sandy beaches of Cocanha and Massaguaçu. Many people pop over for an hour or two with the help of the local fishermen. If you are feeling a little more adventurous you can either swim or paddle board over.

This photo was captured using my Mavic Pro drone. I paddle boarded from Massaguaçu, being super careful not to fall off and completely wreck the drone. Once on the beach I launched the Mavic and captured this photo.
