Cachoeira Da Laje & Trilha do Bonete

A few year’s ago Rose and I stayed overnight on the tropical island of Ilhabela in Brazil. We were looking for a bit of an adventure, so we decided to hike the ‘Trilha do Bonete’.
The trail is isn’t for the faint-hearted and is about 10-15km in length through the (pretty relentless) jungle. It eventually leads all the way to lush sands and relaxing waters of Praia Bonete (beach). You can get there as well by boat or helicopter, but what fun would that be!
We had planned to camp and so had (reasonably heavy) packs and a tent. When we arrived at the beach, after 8 hours of walking, getting malled by borrachudos and experiencing a few Indiana Jones moments we decided to stay in a pousada.
This photo was shot at Cachoeira Da Laje, one of three beautiful waterfalls that you pass en-route. If you ever go, pack plenty of water and more importantly, repellent!
